Society in the age of Artificial Intelligence

Anyone who's chatted with an AI or asked it a prompt knows by now it's not just a trend. Artificial Intelligence is truly here, improving by leaps and bounds frighteningly fast and it's going to transform every aspect of society. But without governments changing alongside it I think the results will be a complete collapse of society.

Not too long ago people had no ways to share their voice or passion with the bigger world. Then the internet and social media came and bridged the gap between creations and audience. Artificial Intelligence is capable of bridging the gap between vision and creation.

Go back to the 1980s. Sam Raimi directed the cult classic movie The Evil Dead. He received a loan of $1 million from his family to bring his vision to reality. In 2025 someone was able to recreate his iconic car chase through the forest scene from The Evil Dead entirely using AI. In a short while the Sam Raimis of the world won't need millions of dollars from family or a studio to make their vision a reality. It's the most amazing part of AI to me. We have pictures in our heads, movies, music, art, comics, ideas all the things that make us move and feel and interesting and AI can make it so we are no longer kept from realizing it because of a knowledge gap. For some people it's a downside, but I don't think it is. If AI is actually capable of bringing our vision to life and not just a mutated, aggregated version of it that's a beautiful thing.

The scary side of this is the structure of our society as it is currently built. We make a living today bridging the knowledge gap between people. Suddenly this knowledge becoming obsolete in virtually every industry leaves a frightening number of the population without an ability to make a living. Without a plan for this obselescence like basic income or state sponsored programs the AI revolution will be followed by a society unable to build on it.
