Best of Sunnyside series: Coffee shops

In a few weeks my time at Sunnyside will come to an end. I will be moving to Forest Hills and leaving maybe my favorite neighborhood of all the ones I've lived in around Queens. This will be the first of my series of letters to my home. Let's talk about coffee shops for today.

Aubergine Cafe

The best coffee shop in Sunnyside for delicious pastries, especially vegan ones. Their chocolate tahini vegan cookies are fantastic, and while they don't seem to carry it anymore the rainbow cake was amazing when they had it. Their coffee is middling but you come here for the sweets. Go to the coffee shop next on the list for coffee.

Cool Beans! Coffee House

My favorite coffee shop in Sunnyside. The vibe is cozy and welcoming and it's run by a sweet lady who makes you feel special when you walk in. The coffee is simple but great and it's reasonably priced. There is a reason I come here in the morning for a black coffee even though it's 15 minutes away. Cool Beans is a throwback. A coffee shop where vibes make the place. Coming here is just a nice way to start the day.

The Spot Cafe

We have been over pastries and coffee, and now it's time for best food. In this The Spot Cafe clears the rest by a mile. Their prices are amazing, especially for the portion of food you get. Everything I have gotten here has been huge, and they're all delicious. Get the chicken quesadilla and it's enough food for the whole day for $12. It's one of my go to comfort food places in Sunnyside.

Next up on the series will be best places to buy groceries, then best restaurants, late night munchies spots and then a few places that didn't fit into any lists but worth mentioning. Sunnyside is gorgeous and filled with down to earth places that make the neighborhood feel like home. I'll be sad to leave it.
